E-Card

Module 5 - E-Card Design

For this project, I really wanted to use some of my own stock pictures.  I chose solar power as my environmentally sustainable topic for the E-Card.  I started with the backside of the card.  I used a sunset picture taken near Waikiki and applied techniques that I learned in the Lynda.com videos to enhance the lighting, color, saturation and tones in the sky, along the waterline and along the shoreline - applying separate brush filters to each of the three areas.  I took the logo from Solar Energy International website and used Papyrus as my font of choice for the entire project.

Next I work on the inside of the card.  I really wanted to try the reflection technique that I learned in the Lynda.com videos.  But since I didn't have multiple plains, I ended up using the techniques from the reflection lesson, as well as vanishing point to get a picture of earth from space onto the solar panels as a reflection.   The facts I used on the inside were from www.solarbuzz.com.  I do not like the way the red font came out with the blue sky background, but it was the best choice of all the colors I tried.  The photo was taken from http://www.solarinsure.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/solar-panel-1-300x239.jpg

Finally, I completed the front side of the card.  The picture was taken looking up towards the sky from the WWII Pearl Harbor memorial.  I made a few enhancements to brighten the sun rays.  I struggled with what exactly to place as words on the front of the card.  Not entirely happy with my final choice.
I really enjoyed being able to use my own photos to complete this project and being able to effectively use techniques I learned in the videos.  I do not like how the font portions came out, but I love the work I did on the photographs.  The originals of those photos will be uploaded to my "Photos" tab of the blog so you can see the before and after.
